If you find yourself on the wrong side of the law, regardless of the individual circumstances, it is important to ensure that you access the most robust defence available.

Our experienced criminal law team is committed to vigorously defending the rights of individuals. Furthermore, as members of the Criminal Defence Service, we can arrange public funding to cover your defence in most cases:  consulting us won’t cost you anything, not consulting us may cost you your liberty.

Rights on Arrest

As soon as you are detained you have the right to know why you have been arrested.  Once at the Police Station you are entitled to:

• See a solicitor
• Have someone told where you are
• Read a copy of the Codes of Practice which explains the procedures the police should follow in such circumstances.

Advice at the Police Station is free and you should ask the Police to contact your solicitor immediately. 

Attendance at Court

If you are one of your children are summoned or charged by the police you will be required to attend court and you should see a solicitor as soon as possible.  We will be able to give expert advice and represent you in court if necessary.  We can give you advice on various issues including bail, pleading guilty or not guilty and the likely sentence you may receive on conclusion of the matter. Sentences available to the court range from discharges and fines, through community penalties such as probation or community service, up to custody.
